A new breed of undead are planning human annihilation

Earth lies an unrecognizable wasteland, scorched and barren; a bleak, forbidding landscape and the setting for Deadlands, Scott A. Johnson’s second horror novel.
Human survivors of the final world war inhabit underground colonies, ever on the defensive against rotters – mindless animated corpses that roam the surface in perpetual hunger for human flesh.

Christian and his sister, Cadence – members of the Guardsmen –  live in and protect the Downtown city. After investigating the destruction of a neighboring colony, they return to find Downtown similarly decimated.  Soon they learn there is a new breed of undead – Necrosapiens – with all the strengths of a rotter and all the intelligence of ancestral generations.

When they encounter a band of the ruthless beings, and discover the plot to wipe out humanity, Christian and Cadence must fight against what is growing inside them to save the human race.

Scott A. Johnson has crafted a terrifying, yet thoughtful future world where well-drawn characters confront our deepest fears. Intelligent is not often a word associated with zombies, but Deadlands succeeds in bringing intelligence to the zombie genre, in more ways than one.
