Author Scott A. Johnson pens new Horror column
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Horror fans will shriek with fright in response
to Scott Johnson’s new biweekly column “Cold Spots”
found at www.horrorchannel.com. Even scarier is the simple fact Johnson’s
columns are true.
While promoting his new book, An American Haunting (Harbor House, $24.95),
Johnson stumbled onto the Horror Channel Web site. He immediately
found unity within his own goals and the cable and satellite network’s
dedication to the Horror genre and under-served Horror fan base.
Johnson began frequenting their bulletin board and, in no time, was asked
to become a regular columnist.
Johnson is well aware that the site’s “under-served Horror
fan base” is comprised of a real sub-community full of ordinary
individuals passionate about Horror. “People plan their vacations
around horror,” he says. “There’s a lot of interest
in real haunted places and everyone who has read my columns has been nothing
but supportive.”
Supportive doesn’t even cover it. The Horror Channel Web site has
a staggering number of loyal followers and Johnson’s columns alone
have thousands of readers. In 24 hours, one column was read by more than 1,500
viewers.
Impatient with urban legends, Johnson only takes on those topics he can
verify through news reports and eyewitnesses. Having grown up in the swampland
coastal town of Lake Jackson, Texas, his early childhood revolved around
the folklore and ghost stories rampant in the area.
Through the years he has fed this fascination. The phenomenal result is
both his “Cold Spots” column and his spine-tingling first
book, An American Haunting, scheduled to hit bookstores nationwide in
September.
