Rick Turnbull Featured on SCETV's The Writers' Circle

Rick Turnbull, author of Gum's Story, will be featured on SCETV's The Writers' Circle of South Carolina.

The Writers’ Circle of South Carolina is produced and hosted by WRJA’s Patti Just, who interviewed Rick Turnbull at his home overlooking Horse Creek in Burnettown, South Carolina for the show scheduled to air on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at 5:00 pm.

Gum’s Story chronicles the odyssey of a young American airman in Vietnam and his relationship with a Vietnamese boy nicknamed Gum because of his love for bubble gum.

Publisher E. Randall Floyd praised the book for its “honest and brutal” portrayal of the war as seen through the eyes of a young serviceman from Augusta, Ga.

“This is an honest-to-gosh, old-fashioned tear-jerker,” Floyd said. “Rick has managed to capture the horrors of the Vietnam War in a unique way, especially its impact on innocent civilians and one team of American boys who served there."
