Naomi Williams in the Augusta Chronicle
"Writer
is coming of age at 75"
by Rich Everitt
The Augusta Chronicle
She spent 42 years teaching students in Augusta about the luminaries of
literature. Now, Naomi Williams is on the verge of becoming one.
Her novel, Two Rivers, is a tale of a young girl coming of age
in the Carolina Lowcountry.
Its publication, her first attempt at the age of 75, marks the literary
coming of age of Mrs. Williams.
Before devoting her retirement to writing, she devoted herself to inspiring
area students with the works of the literary masters, while having them
master the rudiments of the language.
After 42 years as a teacher--first at Westside, later at at Augusta Preparatory
Day School--at least some former students still remember the lessons.
Sitting in her easy chair she told me about a recent encounter.
