Two Augusta Area Authors to be Published

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Harbor House, the Augusta-based book publishing company, announced this week it has inked deals with two area authors to publish their fiction titles in 2002.

Gum’s Story by Rick Turnbull of Langley, S.C., chronicles the odyssey of a young American airman in Vietnam and his relationship with a Vietnamese boy nicknamed Gum because of his love for bubble gum.

Publisher E. Randall Floyd praised the book for its “honest and brutal” portrayal of the war as seen through the eyes of a young serviceman from Augusta, Ga.

“This is an honest-to-gosh, old-fashioned tear-jerker,” Floyd said. “Rick has managed to capture the horrors of the Vietnam War in a unique way, especially its impact on innocent civilians and one team of American boys who served there.

Gum’s Story will be released Fall 2002.

Mr. Turnbull, who served with the Air Force in Vietnam in the early 1970s when much
of the book takes place, said he is “thrilled” about being published.

“This is a dream come true,” Mr. Turnbull said in an interview.
