As a sought-after spokesman and commentator, Phil regularly appears on FOX News Network, CNN, MSNBC, and syndicated talk radio programs across the nation.
A veteran award-winning journalist, Phil has served as editorial writer, editorial page editor, and political columnist for The Augusta (Georgia) Chronicle for 25 years. He is also co-founder and chairman of the board of advisors of the Washington, D.C.-based Editorial Information Network, an organization providing Capital Hill information to the media.
In 1981-82, Phil served in Washington, D.C., as press secretary and public affairs
advisor to U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-SC). After his tour of duty in the nation's capital, Phil returned to The Augusta Chronicle as editorial page editor.
A native of Auburn, NY, Phil is a 1973 graduate of the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia. he was a member of the Young Americans for Freedom in college.
Phil was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant, military police, and served on active duty at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He is a member of the National Conference of Editorial Writers, the Military Order of World Wars, and is a member of the board of advisors of Coalition for a Voting America, a non-partisan voter education organization.
Phil is married to the former Bonnie Lever of Augusta, Ga., and has a son, Philip Jr., of Augusta.
