George Holmes

Dr. George Holmes has been a faculty member with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine since 1978. In addition to his appointment as a professor in the Department of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science, he serves as Chief of Child and Adolescent Services at William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute, Columbia, South Carolina, where he has been employed since 1969. Dr. Holmes also serves as a part-time faculty member in the Psychology Department at the University of South Carolina, where he has taught since 1988.

After receiving a bachelor of science in psychology from the University of Scranton, Scranton, Pennsylvania, Dr. Holmes earned a master of arts in psychology from the University of South Carolina. He also completed a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of South Carolina. He served a clinical psychology internship at the University of Alabama School of Medicine/Smolian Psychiatric Clinic, Birmingham Alabama. Dr. Holmes is a licensed clinical psychologist and has special interests in psychodiagnostic evaluations in children, adolescents and adults; individual psychotherapy with adolescents and adults; couples therapy; group psychotherapy; and consultation. He also leads a research team at William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute focusing on assessment of psychological trauma and health in children and adolescents.
